The Student Poster Contest encourages and recognizes students who present professional quality posters at the annual Plains Conference. Due to the cancellation of the 78th Annual Plains Conference, the competition is being moved entirely online in 2020!

Full or part-time, undergraduate or graduate students are invited to participate in this year's competition. This is a unique year and all poster presentations will be conducted via Zoom with a three judge panel.

Separate undergraduate and graduate awards will be granted. The award is a cash payment of $100 to undergraduates and $200 to graduate students. A check will be mailed to the winning lead author in each category.

The 2020 contest winner(s) will be announced on the Plains Anthropological Society website and will be recognized at the conference banquet in 2021, to which the lead author will receive two complimentary tickets. Winning posters will also be uploaded to the PAS website for a wider audience view. 

The deadline for submissions is October 31, 2020, with a review of entries taking place during the first week of November. Presenters will be contacted directly by the judging panel to schedule a Zoom session during the first week of November to discuss their research. Winners will be announced on November 6th.

Criteria

  • Enrolled as a full or part-time student, either undergraduate of graduate.
     
  • Must be a current member of the Plains Anthropological Society. Become a member today if you'd like to participate in this year's competition!
     
  • The lead author must present the poster to the three judge panel in a virtual poster session via Zoom, scheduled for the first week of November.

To Apply

Poster submissions should be emailed in pdf format directly to Brendon Asher at brendon.asher@enmu.edu. You should include "Plains Student Poster Competition" in the subject line, and indicate if you are an undergraduate or graduate student in the email. Once your poster is received, you will be notified that your submission has been accepted via email. If you do not receive a confirmation within 48 hours, please email again or contact Brendon directly at 575-562-2910.

Although posters will be submitted electronically, they should still adhere to the 36" x 72" maximum size limit of previous competitions.

You are encouraged to follow the guidelines linked below for past Student Poster Competitions, but keep in mind that without the conference, all activity will be virtual.
